Surface

Design and identity for a conceptual museum and exhibition about the culture of the American dinner table.

Based off of the writings of David Leatherbarrow from his groundbreaking 2009 book Architecture Oriented Otherwise, Surface is a conceptual museum exhibition at the fictional Mammal Museum. The exhibition examines the dinner table as a space within American culture. Broken into three sections—Setting, Meal, and Crumbs—Surface challenges us to reexamine our relationships and preconceived notions of what the table was, is, and can be.
